WORKSHOPS back

  Matt Chapman Clown Workshops
Posted August 26, 2007

Note: Posted as received.

This is to announce two great opportunities in September to study Clown in NYC with Under the Table's Matt Chapman!

Matt is offering two different workshops this September: a week-long "Introduction to Clown," and a weekly "Character Clown" group for folks who have a more developed Clown.

INTRODUCTION TO CLOWN: see, believe, play!

This week-long intensive will be a deep exploration of the world and play of the Clown. Using the lens of the Clown, we will explore the performer's ability to play with honesty and ferocity in each moment on stage. We will look at the world of the clown: size and scale, rhythm, time/timing and space/spacing as vocabulary, and we will use these elements to BE FUNNY. This workshop is perfect for those interested in learning Clown, refreshing the foundation of their play in Clown, or for actors who want to play more comfortably in comedy or more honestly in their own skin.

When: 7-10 PM , Tuesday Sept. 18- Friday Sept. 21, 2-6 PM Saturday Sept. 22
Where: Ripley-Grier Studios, 520 8th Avenue, Manhattan
Cost: $225 for the 5 sessions ($200 if you register by August 15)

CHARACTER CLOWN

This weekly workshop is for those who want to make their clown funnier through a rigorous investigation of character. Who is this clown, and what is funny about them? Who are they in the world of the clown, and in relation to others? We will walk far into the realm of deep, dense character play, searching for the point of view of your particular clown, or to make an established point of view more pronounced. The methodology of this study will be through working on pieces in the weeks between workshop dates, solo and/or in groups. Especially welcome are pre-existing duos/trios who want to work together, or come alone and find some new partners!

When: Mondays in September, 7-10 PM, Saturday, Sept. 29, 2-6 PM
Where: Ripley-Grier Studios, 520 8th Avenue, Manhattan
Cost: $225 for the 5 sessions ($200 if you register by August 15; group rates available!)

A small number of scholarship positions are available for both workshops. Inquire in your email of interest!

Interested students should send an email of inquiry.
