NY Clown Theatre Festival Workshops

Theatre clowns, physical comedians, improvisers, and any performer who
desires powerful connections with your audiences, these classes are for you.
Study with world-famous teachers, performers, and directors in a variety of

Over 100 international clown theatre companies have applied to perform, and
the festival will soon announce a theatre schedule that will include
performances, panel discussions, films, and a giant pie fight.
Save the dates: September 1st - 24th, 2006, and experience the joy,
ridiculousness, and pure humanity of the international clown community, in
Williamsburg, at The Brick Theater.

Ronlin Foreman: Radically Funny
Two-day workshop from 10-2 pm
Sept 2 & 3rd (Saturday-Sunday)

A provocative teacher and director, Ronlin Foreman is Director of
Pedagogical Research and Master Clown Teacher at the Dell'Arte International
School of Physical Theatre.
Philippe Gaulier: Jeu and Clown Workshop
Four-day workshop from 10-4 pm with a 1 hour lunch break
September 7-10th. (Thursday-Sunday)

Philippe Gaulier is a world-renowned teacher/writer and director with a
distinctive approach to the world of performance. Currently based in Paris,
France he runs his own international theatre school, Ecole Philippe Gaulier.
Jef Johnson from Slava's Snowshow: Unlocking the Life of the Clown
One-day workshop
September 12th (Tuesday) 6pm-10pm

Jef Johnson is a principal clown in the company of Slava's Snowshow. As
clown, he toured with Cirque du Soleil and also served as Artistic Director,
performed on Broadway and internationally.
Sue Morrison: Clown Intensive Workshop

Sue Morrison, Artistic Director of the Theatre Resource Centre, has been
teaching, directing and collaborating on Bouffon, and Native American
Clowning across the globe for 25 years.

Chris Bayes is a performer and director who has also served on the faculty
of the Juilliard School, the Actor's Center, Yale School of Drama, the
Academy of Classical Acting at the Shakespeare Theater in Washington D.C.,
NYU's Graduate Acting Program, and as the Director of Movement and Physical
Theater at the Brown/Trinity Consortium.
David Shiner: Physical Comedy Workshop
Two-day workshop from 10-2pm
September 22-23 (Saturday & Sunday)

David Shiner is best known for his starring role in Cirque du Soleil. He has
starred in the German and Swiss National Circuses, and the award-wining
Broadway show Full Moon. David Shiner is currently creating, conceiving and
directing a new show for Cirque du Soleil that will open in 2007.
Clown, Improv, & Clown Skills for ages 5-12
Two one-day workshops
September 9th & 23rd (Saturday) 5-6pm
$25
Each class is filled with fun improv games, basic tumbling and partner
balancing. Other exciting circus skills such as juggling, stilt walking,
hoop tricks, and plate spinning, just to name a few. We work with clown
noses and classic clown routines, playing with kids natural abilities and
new skills. There be will be new and different skills in each class so sign
up for both!
