  Lecoq Technique Workshop
Posted February 26, 2006

Intensive three-day workshop for teachers of theater and movement at Stella Adler Studio of Acting
June 2-4, 2006

WITH MASTER TEACHER NORMAN TAYLOR

Norman Taylor taught alongside Jacques Lecoq at l'Ecole Internationale de Théâtre in Paris for 20 years. Prior to this, Norman was a student of Lecoq's himself, first as an actor and then as a student of his pedagogy. From 1998 - 1999, Norman was also the Pedagogical Coordinator at the school. He now teaches Lecoq's pedagogy throughout Europe and Latin America and is making his first visit to North America this spring.

This workshop will explore the analysis of movements, one of the fundamentals of Jacques Lecoq's method and approach to artistic training. The workshop will also explore the pedagogical parallels of movement analysis and the themes of improvisation, which form a creative journey towards acting in physical terms. Participants do not need to have studied Lecoq technique but do need to have a working familiarity with one or more theatrical movement techniques.

There will be three aspects to the exploration of movement:
TECHNICAL: We will seek the essence of many movements and we will see the dramatic application and justification of these exercises. We will note the analogies and seek the dynamics between the origin and its 'play'.

DRAMATIC: We will develop time and space in a dramatic structure and see how the 'essential' exercises can create the motors of acting. We will also see how a teacher can develop techniques of giving feedback and critiques to young artists.

POETIC: We will witness how, applying this method and approach, artists can transcend and transpose life, how they can touch on the permanent fundamentals of movement and create the marvelous for us to marvel at.
