Note: Posted as received.
The Stolen Chair Theatre Company is thrilled to welcome the legendary
Commedia dell'Arte maestro Antonio Fava to New York where he will offer a
one-day intensive workshop on Commedia dell'Arte. We hope you'll join us and
pass this info on to friends and colleagues.
Maestro Antonio Fava will introduce participants to the traditional artform
of Commedia dell'Arte and teach: use and meaning of the mask, fixed
typologies and characters including Old People, Lovers, Zanni, and Captains,
and the functions, gestures, and behaviors of each. As a Grand Finale for
the workshop, all students will participate in a presentation of an
improvised Commedia scenario.
Antonio Fava is an actor, theatre director, and Maestro of Commedia
dell'Arte and of Comedy. Fava directs the International School of the Comic
Actor in Reggio Emilia, Italy and designs and makes leather masks for use in
his school and performances. Fava teaches Commedia dell'Arte in schools,
universities, and drama academies throughout the world, and his masks are on
display in important museums and cultural institutions. His book entitled,
"The Comic Mask in Commedia dell'Arte: Actor Training, Improvisation and the
Poetics of Survival," will soon be released by Northwestern University
Press.
Workshop Date: February 19th.
