Movement class with Eric Davis (aka Red Bastard)
Posted May 13, 2005
The Articulate Body
Instructor: Eric Davis, aka Red Bastard
In this class, actors and improvisers will learn to use their bodies
onstage with maximum presence and clarity. The improviser/actor must
not only be able to convey meaning with words, but with his or her
entire body. She must wear her heart on the outside of her skin. From
the outrageously extreme to the delightfully subtle, he lives in the
articulate body. Davis will draw upon movement theory and techniques
from physical theatre (Lecoq), Dance, Clown, and Effort Shapes to give
students a greater understanding of how their bodies work. Emphasis
will be given on the pleasure of play and articulating the
dramatic/comedic impulses of a scene both as individuals and as a
group.
ERIC DAVIS has been improvising and teaching internationally for over a
decade. Having taught in New York, Canada, Belgium, Ireland and London.
Recently directing a 14 member ensemble cast in a highly stylized Mask
show at the Off-Broadway theatre Lucille Lortel. Hailed by theatre
critics as "New York's hottest performance artist", Davis is trained in
long and short form improvisation, modern and improvisational Dance,
Lecoq technique, Laban movement analysis, mask and Clown work.
