Cirque Mechanics Birdhouse Factory Nov. 13 - Dec. 14
Posted November 4, 2008
Note: At least some of this show was conceived by jugglers Fritz
Grobe and Steven Ragatz among others. If you don't remember Fritz from
Juggle This 2003, perhaps you know of his experiments with Eepybird with Diet Coke
and Mentos and later with Post-It notes . Yup, that's him, brilliant.

ABOUT BIRDHOUSE FACTORY
The workers at the H Rosebud Widget Factory are interconnected by
their roles on the assembly line, which produces uninspired widgets,
until a hapless bird flies into one of their machines, creating mayhem
and forever altering their lives and the factory's future.
Factory life is depicted by blending mechanics and art. The spectator
will see a contortionist perform her act while on a turntable powered
by unicyclists. Audiences will be captivated by the flying trapeze
performer elevated by an acrobat inside a giant gear-like wheel. They
will be swooned by a couple's romantic tango adagio, amazed by the
juggler manipulating birdhouses and wowed by the high flying jumps of
the trampoline artists. All the while they will be giggling at the
antics of the comedic characters and impressed by the acro-dancing and
back flips deftly performed by the rest of the cast.
This 90-minute stage production was inspired in part by Diego Rivera's
artful Detroit Industry Murals, the outrageous illustrations of Rube
Goldberg and by the hilarious slap- stick comedy of Charlie Chaplin's
film Modern Times.
Our show couldn't be more timely since it addresses the frustrations
of working class people in a post-industrial era by focusing on the
unique talents of the individual, reminding us of the free spirit
within that shines in all regardless of circumstance. It is the human
spirit that triumphs, the bird awakens it and sustains it providing
the workers an opportunity to come together for a greater cause
outside of their own and the result is a marvelous journey of
self-discovery, a sense of camaraderie, a more optimistic view for the
future.
