"The little trick of getting three objects to dance around in your hands has always managed to keep a small sense of magic...It's one form of insanity we feel everyone has a right to experience."

  Circus Shakespeare through Sept. 9
Posted September 5, 2007

The current Shakespeare in the Park production of A Midsummer Night's Dream includes an aerial act by Chelsea Bacon, stage combat, magic, and lots of clowning (although no juggling). Mark Mitton served as magic consultant to director Dan Sullivan (and tipped us off to the production; thanks Mark!).

Schedule:

Tuesdays through Sundays at 8:00 PM through September 9th

Three Ways to Get Tickets:

1) Pick up your free tickets (2 per person) on the day of the performance at The Delacorte Theater in Central Park (the box office opens at 1pm, the line starts much earlier), or at The Public Theater Box Office, 425 Lafayette Street (from 1:00 to 3:00pm). There are separate ticket lines to accommodate people with disabilities and senior citizens aged 65 or older. Proof of age or disability is required. For more information about these lines, please contact the Delacorte Theater box office at 212-539-8662.

2) There is a last-minute line for leftover tickets that starts forming around 5pm at the Delacorte. With summer over, you may just be in luck.

3) Become a Summer Supporter to reserve seats. For more info see publictheater.org.

Show Synopsis by Mark Mitton:

Four lovers flee Athens for the forest, unaware that their romantic squabble and parental difficulties will soon be overshadowed by magic. A fight between the King and Queen of the Fairies, Titania and Oberon, ensues, turning the mortals into libidinous lunatics, while Titania herself falls in love with a buffoon turned ass. A Midsummer Night's Dream is a sparkling romp that proves "the course of true love never did run smooth."

Directions to the open-air Delacorte Theater in Central Park:

- Take the 6 train to 77th Street. Entrance to Central Park is at 79th Street and Fifth Ave. Follow the footpath to the Delacorte Theater.

- Take the B or C train to 81st Street. Entrance to Central Park is at 81st Street and Central Park West. Follow the footpath to the Delacorte Theater.
