World Juggling Day June 20
Posted June 17, 2009
UPDATE: 06/19/09 Kudos to Jacob Weiss for making a plan!
"I plan to be in Washington Square Park juggling with the Catch It Early sign, t-shirt, cards to hand out this Saturday from 11am-2pm. If anyone is interested please have them contact me at jacob@catchitearly.org or 888-584-4532. The bigger the group of jugglers, the better!
This Saturday is World Juggling Day. We're getting lots of emails asking what's going on but none telling us about exciting events—maybe this will inspire people to plan one. (Sorry, both halves of JuggleNYC.com will both be out of town, so we can't organize it ourselves!)
World Juggling Day is presented by the International Jugglers' Association. Here's what they say about it:
"The IJA hopes that World Juggling Day gives jugglers everywhere a rallying point for their enthusiasm for the art, demonstrates solidarity among jugglers worldwide, and gives the public an idea of the enormous popularity of juggling."
The IJA currently lists over 60 events in 15 countries. If you do plan an event, in addition to doing New York City a solid, you'll be eligible for all kinds of prizes from participating sponsors.
To register for World Juggling Day and plan an event, visit juggle.org/wjd/. Then spread the word to the rest of the NY juggling crew!
- Submit a listing for us to include on the main site.
- Post it yourself on the JuggleNYC.com Message Board.
In fact, if you're not up for organizing something, you can use the Message Board to make less formal plans to meet up with other jugglers.
Have fun! Wish we could be there. And when you're done, send us pictures!
PS, If nothing turns up, the smart money says bring your props to Riverside Park at West 103rd Street, and head to the Swing-A-Rings. If it's a nice day, you're likely to find jugglers there.
