"The little trick of getting three objects to dance around in your hands has always managed to keep a small sense of magic...It's one form of insanity we feel everyone has a right to experience."

Juggling/Circus in 2006 Winter Olympics Closing Ceremony
Posted February 25, 2006

Note: Thanks to Ben & Yvette at Serious Juggling for the tip (where do you think the organizers bought the clubs?).

Juggling and circus arts will play a major part in the Closing Ceremony of the Winter Olympic Games in Torino, Italy, Sunday, February 26th. Since 500 million television viewers worldwide are expected to watch, this will represent the largest viewing audience ever for a juggling performance.

Look for 75 Radical Fish StreetPro juggling clubs cleverly disguised as icicles.

The juggling section will take place during the eight-minute segment near the handover of the Olympic flag from Torino to Vancouver, B.C., where the 2010 Games will be held. During this segment, the Vancouver 2010 Organising Committee will present Canadian artists, including les 7 Doigts de la Main and students from l'Ecole Nationale de Cirque. The list of producers includes those who have done shows for Cirque du Soleil.

Don't miss the rest of the Ceremony either. The theme is "Carnevale," and circus performers from around Italy (as well as Cirque Eloize from Quebec) will "interweave the elation and the fantasy of the world of Carnevale with the sounds, colours and actions typical of the Circus, and of the Commedia dell'Arte."
