Celebration Barn Requests Help
Posted February 12, 2006
Note: Text is from mass-mailing from Avner Eisenberg, aka Avner the Eccentric.
Celebration Barn has been an oasis for so many of us for over thirty years. For artists, it has been a stimulating place to explore and create. For audiences, it has been a refreshing place to step back from the rest of the world and enjoy the power of live theater. It is a place where everyone is welcome, where everyone is a part of the community.
It has been thirty-three years since Tony Montanaro first opened the doors of Celebration Barn Theater. Back in 1972, he saw the amazing potential of this old farmstead. Tony had the vision to see how an old barn in the middle of the woods could be transformed into a theater. He had the vision to see how that theater could transform people into artists. He had the vision to see what has grown into an artistic training ground for performing artists from around the world. He saw it all in an old, abandoned farmstead. Last year alone, we had students from 22 states and 5 countries. From independent variety artists around the globe to featured performers with Cirque du Soleil, some of the best performing artists in the world have trained and performed at Celebration Barn. As vibrant and as important as ever, this beautiful old Barn is part of our shared heritage. And now, after one of our biggest seasons on record - with more workshops and performances than ever before - Celebration Barn urgently needs your help.
A thorough inspection of the Barn by a team of experienced builders has now revealed that the Barn and the adjacent farmhouse urgently need major repairs: This is where we need your help. Your donation is critically needed right now. We need to raise US$40,000 to make these repairs, and you can make it happen. Your gift today will allow us to carry out this important work. Your donation today will help stop the roof from leaking, seal the basements, and make sure that the Barn can be fully operational this summer. We already have nearly enough to repair the roof, and although we missed out on our goal of getting this done by first snowfall, we are now shooting for the spring thaw. You can help Celebration Barn continue to be a place where amazing things happen. Where a game of baseball can be played with an imaginary ball. Where a mask, a story, or a little red nose can completely transform you. Where the vision of one man created a community of artists and audience members that continues to grow with each passing year.
The full schedule of all our workshops is available on the Barn website. And we have some exciting surprises in store for the summer performance series, which we will announce in the spring! Yes, right now Celebration Barn faces a serious problem. With your generosity, we can turn that around. With your generosity, next summer will once again be filled with longtime friends and new faces making theater in this beautiful Barn in the woods of Maine. Your contribution will make this happen.
