Hello fellow jugglers/unicyclists/people-into-circus-arts,
I'm writing you about Road Show USA, a coast to coast bicyclingand streetperforming tour that will take place this summer. We are a group of 8riders from the midwest and we are raising money for the ShrinersHospitalsfor Children, a network of 22 hospitals that provide expert, no-costorthopaedic and burn care to children under 18.
Our trek will start in Astoria, Oregon on Thursday, June 5, 2003. After 72 days and 4,700 miles, we will arrive in Boston on August 15,2003. We will be biking an average of 67 miles a day and we will be street performing in the towns along the way. Our street performance has plenty of variety: juggling, magic, balloon animals, and plenty of comedy to tie it all together.
This is a self-supported tour, meaning that we will be carrying all our gear (camping/cooking/clothing/juggling) on our bikes. Our website lists
the exact route we are taking and the dates that we will be in each town. Right now we are looking for places to camp in the overnight towns. We have tentatively set the towns where we will be staying overnight, but this may change based on availability of free camping. In addition, we would be happy to set up performances in advance. If you know somewhere we can camp for free, or if you know of any possible performances, please let us know.
We are currently seeking sponsors. All the sponsors receive recognition onthe Road Show USA t-shirts and jerseys, on the web site, and by word of mouth promotion along the ride. Our jerseys will receive significant visibility as they are worn all the way across the country (and yes, they will be washed regularly). By posting journals and photos as the ride progresses, we hope to draw a significant amount of visitors to the website where we the sponsors have logos and links to their web sites. Our word of mouth promotion is also valuable to our sponsors. This can have a large business impact due to the many people we will be coming in contactwith on this trip. During the week of Register's Annual Bike Ride AcrossIowa (RAGBRAI) alone, we will be performing among 10,000 cyclists inaddition to the many people who also come to take part in the RAGBRAI activities. This is truly a tremendous advertising opportunity! Please contact us if you would like to become a Road Show USA sponsor.
You might be saying to yourself, "That sounds like fun!" If so, feel free to join us for a few days of riding. We would welcome your company. If you're planning on camping with us for a bit, send us an email so we can give fair warning to any of our camping spots along the way. Otherwise, feel free to show up along the ride.
Throughout the ride, we will be posting journals and photos on ourwebsite. Even if you can't meet up with us in person, you canfollow along on the web at http://www.roadshowusa.org.
Feel free to forward this to anyone that would find this interesting. Many of you are receiving this because you leaders of juggling clubs. We woulda ppreciate it if you pass this along to your members. Please direct any questions or comments to roadshowusa@jls-online.net Hope to see you along the way!
