The class includes three parts: 1) physical training on the ground; 2) exploration of different types of climbing, positions, drops, choreography and improvisation; and 3) stretching and relaxation.
About the Instructor:
Miate SanJuan hails from Barcelona, Spain, where she works and teaches. In 1997 she founded the Lorrojo company of Circus and Street Theater. Her work, both with Lorrojo, and as a solo performer has been presented widely at festivals throughout Europe and South America.
Since 1999 Ms. Sanjuan has taught trapeze and fabric in Barcelona, New York and Sao Paula, Brazil.

Introduction to Aerial Dance and Improvisation, 6 Week Workshop
Oriented towards beginner students, this class explores dancing in the air with rope, harness, webbing, fabric, slings, and trapeze. Evoking the performative elements of De La Guarda, we study and practice apparatus based aerial movement. The goal of the class is to build competency in the technical and creative aspects of aerial dance and give each student the tools necessary to delve into creating their own choreography. A strong emphasis is placed on stretching, strengthening, injury prevention, body maintenance and nutrition for aerial performers.
Location Bill Young Studios, SoHo.
100 Grand Street (between Mercer and Greene), 2nd Floor
Dates May 9, 16, 23, 30, June 6 & 13 1:00pm-4:00pm Accepting Registrations Now
Instructor Cypher Zero
Pre-requisites No dance or aerial experience necessary.

Intermediate Aerial Dance and Performance, 6 Week Workshop
Building upon the foundation laid in Introduction to Aerial Dance and Performance, this class will address more advanced techniques, equipment and choreographic issues challenging the experienced aerial performer. Intermediate students revisit rope, harness, webbing, fabric, slings and trapeze at a more advanced level, as well as exploring custom made apparatus. Participants learn advanced rigging techniques in order to fly their own equipment and learn how to collaborate with theatrical stage crews and designers.
A portion of class time will be spent developing short performance routines, which students will have the option to present for family and friends, in an informal performance during the last class session.
