1. NY Fringe Festival needs venue directors
Following is the announcement from my friend Krista Robbins. If you respond,
please mention Viveca's name.
Hey there ya'll
Some of you know me and some of you do not. My name is Krista Jean Robbins
and I am the Production Manager of FringeNYC. I have been involved with
Fringe every year except for last year. (I was out busy getting married
don't cha know).I am sure if any of you all worked with Steve last year then
you have not met me. This year Steve will be going to Edinburgh and I am
back with Fringe.(If any of you know Casey Kennedy, she will also be back
this year).
I am once again out recruiting Venue Directors for the 2002 New York
International Fringe Festival.
I gotta tell you all, I am really excited about this year. We are really
ahead of the game and have some really incredible theaters. Nothing needs to
be built from scratch this year. All of the theaters should pretty much run
themselves. I cannot begin to tell you how much easier that will make it.
I have rewritten the Venue Director job description so if any of you want a
copy of it (or just want to forward it to someone you think might be
interested in this) then let me know.
If you were a VD last year then you already know this but if you were
involved before 2001 it's a little different now.
The Venue Directors are now the only person in charge of the space (other
then the theater owner). We are not using Technical Director's per venue
anymore. We will have a TD on call if there are any problems but for the
most part the Venue Director is on their own in the space. If you are one of
the people (like myself) who is technically challenged, then you can attend
our training sessions before the festival starts. This includes learning how
to change a bulb in a theater lamp, rigging, getting a sound system up and
going. It's all pretty easy. Anyway - because the Venue Director is the only
one in charge of the space it means the money has doubled. Woo - Hoo. Again
it's the same as last year but doubled from 2000.
The dates this year are Friday, August 9th through Sunday, August 25th. Of
course you will need to be around a few days before the festival for tech.
There are also TWO dark days this year. That means the days that your
theater is dark you can either sleep for a full 24 hours or you can get out
and see other shows. Either way, this is a good thing.
If any of you live a far distance, we do have a "youth hostel" set up this
year. We will have six to eight cots set up at the Present Company this year
so if you get involved early enough you can "claim" a cot and stay at the
Present Company.
I am holding a Venue Director Informational meeting a week before the
regular meetings start. So come on down to that or send someone who might be
interested.
Wednesday, June 5th
6:00

For any of you that have never heard of me or the New York International
Fringe Festival then someone has passed your name along to me. Again, I can
send an attachment of the Venue Director job description to you. In a nut
shell though, a Venue Director is a Stage Manager/Company Manager/House
Manager/Theater Manager and Technical Director all rolled up into one job.
Let me know

Remember Hil from her clown-parasol piece in the Juggle This! public show?
Now's your chance to see her complete one-woman show.
"A LIFE IN HER DAY" at PSNBC at HERE on Wednesday, June 26, at 7:30 pm

Many of you receiving this notice will have seen a previous performnace of a
previous version of this show. It is VERY much changed! It is now a "Clown"
show rather than a show about being a clown! Here's what I will tell you.
Unconventional and nutty, physical comedienne Hilary Chaplain invites us
into some of her most intimate moments with "A Life In Her Day" presenting
us with a quirky and whimsical slice of life that defies even gravity.
This is a solo plain clothes clown show for adults. The universe of this
clown involves a stuffed dog, a vertical bed perched on it's end, a
breakfast table set with a bowl of marshmallows, a roll of paper towels and
a dummy. Using sight gags and physical comedy, Hilary's character confronts
everyday dilemmas and creates inventive solutions while exposing universal
truths and human vulnerability. We see the span of a day that embraces a
lifetime from waking to retiring, from courtship to childbirth, and from
failure to success. The audience imagines that, come the next day, it all
starts over again.
