The Children's Circus of Middletown seeks teaching artists for our
21st summer circus program. Interested applicants should have
experience working with kids and have a strong base of circus
performance skills. This five-week program provides instruction in
circus arts to over 200 children between the ages of 8 -15. The
Children's Circus of Middletown culminates in a huge outdoor
performance with 200+ performers and over a thousand spectators.
Circus artists teach a basic class to all participants and a more
advanced class to participants who select their discipline and direct
two acts for the final performance. See below for specific disciplines
and requirements.
Art Room Instructor: Interested candidates must have
prior experience working with children. Art instructor is responsible
for guiding students in creation of scenic elements, props, costume
pieces, and decorations for the circus performance.
Clowning: Interested candidates should have
experience working with children, Must be able to demonstrate
knowledge and experience in the art of clowning. We take our clowns
very seriously.
Dance Instructor: Interested candidates should have
experience working with children and be able to choreograph dance
pieces for between 20 and 30 children. Past instructors have drawn
inspiration from hip-hop, capoiera, and African dance.
Juggling Instructor: Interested applicants should
have experience working with children. Applicants should possess
strong juggling skills and knowledge in safe use of juggling props
such as fire and knives.
Unicycling Instructor: Interested applicants should
have experience working with children. Applicants should possess the
necessary unicycle skills to teach children to unicycle. Applicants
should also be willing and able to spot the children while they are
working on their skills. Applicants should also be familiar with the
rolling globe.
Stilting Instructor: Interested applicants should
have experience working with children. The stilting instructor should
be able to teach kids to walk stilts safely. The instructor should
have knowledge of walking, stalling, and falling.
Program/Training Dates: June 24-August 3, Weekdays from 8:30am-4:30pm
Performance Date: Friday, July 31, Rain Date Saturday August 1

$3,000 for 6 weeks
