Job Announcement - Managing Director (20 hours/week)

About the Organization

Formed in 1999, Circus Contraption is a Seattle-based, 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that creates circus arts in new and unusual contexts, entertaining and educating audiences of all ages with performances of original works and scripted physical theater plays. Circus Contraption achieves its mission through:
  • Live performances for the general public in both resident and touring locations;
  • Collaboration with other art forms and performing groups;
  • Production of audio and video recordings of circus-related creative work; and
  • Performances and educational residencies in schools.
  • About the Position

    The Managing Director is responsible for the administration and organizational management of the company. Specific responsibilities will involve:

  • Liaison to the Board of Directors;
  • Development and implementation of an annual budget and a long-term strategy;
  • Oversight of administrative staff;
  • Coordination with artistic company membership;
  • Financial management of the organization, including bookkeeping and payroll;
  • Coordination of fundraising, marketing and booking; and
  • Hiring and oversight of volunteers.
  • The Managing Director is a part-time, 20 hours per week salaried position, starting at $15,000 per year. Some evening and weekend work necessary. This staff member reports directly to the Board of Directors.

    Qualifications Candidates must have the following skills and experience:
  • Knowledge of and experience in nonprofit management
  • Understanding of basic financial management and accounting principles
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to work and communicate well with a wide variety of stakeholders
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
  • The following skills and experiences are desired, but not required:
  • Knowledge of Circus Contraption and/or the Seattle arts community
  • Specific experience in marketing, fundraising, grantwriting and/or booking
  • Competence with financial management, contact management and/or donor tracking software
  • Web design knowledge and experience
